Wild Monkey Enters Village, Steals Eggs And Injures People, Then Chases Pet Dogs

A wild monkey went on a rampage through a village as it attacked some of its residents and left them injured before it chased after people’s pet dogs that tried to drive it away.

Part of the incident was caught on surveillance cameras installed at a villager’s home in Liangshan, in China’s south-western Sichuan Province earlier this March.

Local resident Ms Wang said the monkey entered the village without fear and its presence frightened the dogs.

CCTV footage shows the monkey, likely a wild macaque, chasing after two dogs around their yard.

The pups ran away barking at the monkey seemingly trying to snatch either one.

The pets managed to make their way up a tall stairway towards their owner at which point, the monkey appeared to give up on its intentions.

Earlier, the monkey was reported to have attacked two villagers and bit their fingers.

Residents also said it had stolen their eggs.

According to local authorities, the monkey has since left the community.

The incident sparked outrage among netizens on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where the images emerged, with many remarking the monkeys in the area have become too dangerous.

User ‘Yunyun mother’ wrote: “Where did this monkey even come from?”

And ‘Disgusted with snow for the first time’ said: “I’m glad there were no children playing in the yard.”
