Macaque Shows Up To Steal Food From Local Store Almost Every Day

This is the moment a sneaky monkey keeps watch atop a tree and walks into a convenience store to help itself to some food as soon as there is no one inside.

The macaque reportedly shows up almost every single day to steal yoghurt and other food items from a shop in Guiyang, in south-western China’s Guizhou Province.

CCTV footage from 4th August shows the monkey perched on a tree outside the entrance to the shop and patiently waiting for the cashier to step out.

Then, as soon as the store is empty, it calmly walks inside and heads over to the nearest aisle.

It grabs as much yoghurt as it can carry before it runs back outside and climbs back onto the tree.

Another piece of footage shows the monkey repeating the same exact process and this time ignoring all the people sitting outside.

They all get up in an apparent attempt to get the monkey to drop the food it stole but it quickly gets away from them.

The store manager, Ms Yang, told local media that the macaque comes almost every day, sometimes as early as six in the morning.

As the convenience store is located close to Qianling Mountain in Guiyang, it attracts monkeys living there.

Ms Yang added that they incur losses of CNY 20 (GBP 2.1) to CNY 30 (GBP 3.2) daily due to the macaque’s actions, which she covers herself.

Officials from the Yungyan District Natural Resources Bureau stated that businesses can try to chase away the stealing monkeys but must not harm them.
