This is the gruesome moment two women are seen apparently sharing a feast of dog meat with the animal’s grimly butchered carcass on the table beside them.

The footage, filmed in Cambodia and reported by local media, shows the young women with a huge platter of meat and vegetables.

Beside the platter is a cooking pot with chunks of dark meat in a thick sauce.

And on the other side of the table is what local media reports is the corpse of a dog spreadeagled and face down.

As the women tuck into the feast, they dip into the pot and pull out stringy pieces of meat which one of them then butchers with a meat cleaver.

As the footage ends, the women toast each other with a shot of a local spirit before enthusiastically tucking into their brutal banquet again.

Bafflingly the TikTok footage is captioned: “This civet meat is so delicious”.

Asian palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) are cat-like relatives of weasels that live in trees all through Southeast Asia.

But the footage has infuriated government officials in Cambodia with some calling for new laws banning the consumption of dog meat.

Director-General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), Heng Ratana said “I am deeply disappointed and very saddened by the group of these Cambodian women, who have seriously affected the value of beautiful Cambodian women, affected the morals, traditional society, affected the feelings of international tourism, and especially the actions which have to have a law on banning eating dog meat.”

He said dogs are loyal companions for people, especially victims of landmines.

Cambodia is one of the most mined countries in the world, most laid by the brutal Khmer Rouge communist regime in the 1970s.

Experts say there are still up to 10 million undetected live landmines in the state and the country has 40,000 amputees who lost limbs stepping on the devices.

Heng Ratana added: “In the face of this, I would like to request the relevant authorities, especially the Ministry of Women’s Affairs as well as the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, take the action to educate about this case.

“The next step, our Kingdom in these circumstances, may have to establish a national law banning the eating of dog meat, like some developed countries in the world.

“Even Hanoi, Vietnam is considering a ban on eating dog meat to attract foreign tourists.”
