Dog Of Missing Mount Everest Climber Dies Of A Broken Heart

The dog of a climber who disappeared while climbing Mount Everest has died after falling sick the same day he went missing.

Shrinivas Sainis, from Singapore, went missing on 19th May and he has still not been located.

And now this beloved dog Latte has died too after falling ill the same day the climber went missing.

Touching footage shows the pair being filmed by Shrinivas’ wife.

A second video shows the dog wagging its tail while being petted by the missing climber’s wife, named as Sushma Soma.

Chained Dog Awareness in Singapore (CDAS) had already said on 23rd May that Latte had started losing her appetite.

They said in a statement obtained by CEN: “It’s as if Latte knew that Shri, her foster daddy, was possibly in danger.

“About a week to two ago, Latte started losing her appetite. Blood test did not point out any major abnormalities except that her kidney values were high.

“Yet on that fateful Friday morning after Shri summited Mount Everest and went missing, Latte’s body completely broke down. She vomited blood at home and had a seizure at the clinic she was sent to.

“We found out that she has third stage kidney failure and a 3cm tumour suspected to be a Pheochromocytoma – an adrenal gland tumour requiring quite complex surgery.” (sic)

The statement also said: “This news couldn’t have come at a worst time. While the family and CDAS grapple with the news of Shri missing, his foster dog’s life is hanging by a thread. Shri and Latte have always shared a special relationship; Shri is a quiet and kind man who never gave up on Latte despite her difficulties and aggression.” (sic)

The surgery for the dog was scheduled for 6th June but Latte sadly passed away on 5th June.

The 14-year-old dog was a rescue, according to CDAS, with Shrinivas and Sushma Soma taking her in despite her showing signs of aggression and having a history of biting people.

Latte lived happily with the couple for two years, according to local media.

Showing footage of the dog and her husband, Sushma Soma said on Instagram: “3 Mar 2021 – 5 June 2023

“Latte was around much longer than that but she truly only LIVED after Shri came into her life.

“She was chained in a small bathroom for much of her life. When she was finally rescued by Chained Dog Awareness in Singapore and adopted by a family, she went on to bite them 11 times within a week only to be returned to CDAS after. Shri took her on after (I was in the US at that time) and they went on to develop a beautiful bond that also saw them leave this world at the same time.

“She bit both of us, bared her teeth angrily on a daily basis, and did not allow us to get anywhere close to her face. But towards the end, she started showing us love in many ways – sitting in on my practice sessions, barking for no apparent reason during his work calls, offering her paw to share our oat milk with us, sitting on our couch while we watched TV .. yes, you can tell she loved us dearly.

“It was painful to let her go, but also profoundly beautiful to experience how her life was so closely intertwined with Shri’s. As I look at my empty home now, I feel full knowing how much love our hearts afforded each other.” (sic)

And on 11th June, Sushma Soma paid tribute to her missing husband and his passion for climbing, saying: “Every weekend, Shri would set off at 7am to walk with his 15-20kg backpack. He’d come back home only at 4pm. His usual haunts included McRitchie reservoir, Coast to Coast trail from Jurong to Coney, Treetop walk, Rail Corridor, Bukit Timah hill, amongst many others.

“Through him, I realised Singapore was more than just a glitzy concrete jungle. He opened my eyes to her rainforests and waterways that were hidden from plain sight.

“This week, I revisited some of the trails that have had many weekly trysts with him – Treetop walk, Rail Corridor and Bukit Timah hill – and some of our favourite people joined me.” (sic)

She added: “When I was working to stage HOME in Singapore in April, Shri said I was climbing the Olympus Mons while he was climbing Mount Everest. I asked him ignorantly ‘Wait what, why wouldn’t you say I’m also climbing my own Everest??’ With his inimitable calm smirk, he told me to google Olympus Mons.

“I did only to find out that it is the highest mountain and volcano in the Solar System and is 3 times the height of Mount Everest. Ah, he had his way of celebrating (and annoying) me. Indirectly. Wholly. All while educating me on a random fact.

“In all that’s happened over the last 3 weeks, I had not paused to celebrate in its entirety that Shri was on the peak of Mount Everest! I mean, what an incredible feat he achieved! What a CHAMPION. The tallest peak in Singapore on Bukit Timah hill is just a tiny speck next to where he stood, but it’s pregnant with all his memories for me.

“Shri, this one’s for you. There will never be another You.” (sic)
