This is the moment a fully-grown female gorilla displays her assertion of dominance by pounding on her chest with her hands, followed by a visible flexing of her gigantic muscles.
The silverback gorilla, named Shana, was recently captured on video by animal-lover Jonathan Case, having what can only be described as typical gorilla behaviour.
In a second video, Shana can be seen walking around Dallas Zoo tall and proud, an attitude easily attributed to the gorilla’s strong sense of presence.
According to an extensive study about the reasoning behind the very often seen chest beating among all gorillas, published in the peer-reviewed journal Scientific Reports in April of last year, the animal often tends to do this as a way to communicate their proximity and their size to other gorillas, as to either challenge them or give a warning.
