A disgusted shopper has told how she almost got a real-life frog in her throat when she found one of the hopping creatures in a bag of Woolworths spinach.
Although the store chain closed down in the UK it still exists in Australia where customer Simone Baker had emptied the bag into a pan of pasta on the hob and only noticed the frog when she started stirring it in.
She later took to TikTok to show footage of the extra ingredient, and picked up a branch of Woolworths in Australia.
Simone said: “Woolies, the fresh food people, quite literally a fresh frog in my spinach. Can’t get much fresher than that!”
She said she’d been “traumatised” by the shock and added: “Never been so excited to eat dinner in my life until I saw that.”
The video astonished Simone’s followers on TikTok.
One user ‘Bridget.Vee’ said: “What’s killing me is that he has sauce on him so you must have stirred him in.”
Another ‘Jordan Vairy’ commented: “Can you drop the pasta recipe by any chance? Preferably without the frog.”
Simone replied: “I’m traumatised and don’t think I’ll ever make that again.”
Then user ‘Courtney Louise’ added: “Crying! The comments, 1000 per cent this is why I now grow my own baby spinach.”
Woolworths’ customer service confused the situation more because all they seemed to worry about was whether the frog had any missing limbs.
A spokeswoman for the supermarket chain said: “Our supplier conducted numerous quality assessments on this batch of spinach leaves and did not detect any foreign objects throughout the processing, so this appears to be an isolated incident.
“We work with a number of Australian spinach growers and take food safety very seriously and have rigorous processes to maintain our product quality.
“For our bags of spinach, this includes washing the leaves and a number of quality checks, such as X-ray checks for foreign materials, before they are packaged and sent to our stores.
“We take all customer feedback seriously and understand this must have been an unwelcome surprise for this customer, particularly with the online comments on how delicious the meal looked.”
