This is the moment a trapped camel got the hump after it fell up to its neck in a snowdrift and couldn’t get out.
Firefighters in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, were baffled when they found the two-humped Bactrian camel completely buried in the ice.
Without a winch or other specialist gear, they improvised using their hose to pull the beast to freedom.
Video footage of the rescue, at the Russian-controlled Baikonur Cosmodrome spaceport. Shows the camel with the hose wrapped around its body.
With the other end attached to the fire engine. The vehicle inches forward slowly freeing the animal from the drift.
The clip, released by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. Ends as the camel slithers back to the surface as firefighters are about to check over its health.
A spokesperson for the ministry said on 3rd February: “Having rested a little and gained strength. The animal proudly continued on its way.”
It is unclear where the camel, which was unharmed, came from and how long it had been stuck.
Camels are found all over the Central Asian steppes with a population of around two million Bactrian camels alone.
