This is the moving moment a dog is freed after being trapped inside a burial site for several days as a result of a sick prank.
Footage obtained by CEN shows a man breaking open the walling of a tomb to let the dog out at a cemetery in Cayalti District, in Peru’s Chiclayo Province.
The spotted hound can be seen wagging its tail and shaking off the dust as the footage ends.
The poor pooch could have trapped in the tomb for as long as two days, according to local animal campaigners who suspect someone purposefully locked the animal inside the burial site.
Upon hearing the animal’s agonising howls, residents and visitors of the Juan Pablo Cortez Ugaz cemetery appealed to district authority clerks, whose offices are nearby, to take action.
When the officials failed to react, courageous citizen Deyvi Jimenez Villena decided to take action.
He told local media: “They claimed they heard nothing. They didn’t believe us.
“When the dog continued to bark and we freed it, they did believe us.”
Deyvi reportedly drilled a hole in the thin wall of the tomb, which has covered a grave since 1998, before enlarging the cavity with his bare hands.
The dog, named Manchas by its rescuers, has taken to a shelter managed by animal rights organisation Entre Patas.
Entre Patas spokesman Jekk Brayan criticised: “There are no security guards at the cemetery.
“We are trying to find out how this could have happened. A veterinarian has already examined the dog.”

Manchas found to be anaemic and dehydrated. As soon as its condition improves, the institution will be looking for a new owner.
Anyone found guilty of animal abuse faces up to five years in prison in Peru.
The local authority has informed about the incident.
It is unclear whether an investigation is underway.
Netizens were outraged about the dog’s ordeal but also delighted that it was rescued.
One social media user, ‘kevanver’, asked: “What’s wrong with people? Human evil is emerging in many ways.”
Another netizen, ‘stef_sare30’, added: “I sincerely hope they will pay dearly.”
‘daphne.1890’ admitted: “How painful to see that.”
‘c.bgvv’ asked: “How far can the level of human insensitivity go?”
And ‘mateo.jesusok’ added: “Applause for those who rescued the dog!”
