A curious pup ended up having to be freed by police after it got its head stuck up a clothes dryer vent at its family’s home in South Carolina.

Pictures of the fed-up-looking pooch, named Spike, before the rescue shows him glum-faced with his head sticking out of a clapboard wooden wall.

After Spike’s owner failed to free him they called in police and firefighters to the house in Sumter, USA.

Between them, the emergency services managed to widen the hole and finally free Spike.

The Sumter Police Department said: “Spike was sniffing out mischief when he got stuck.”

They added: “With the help of Sumter Police Department and Sumter Fire Department personnel, the happy hound was freed from his unfortunate circumstance and is doing fine, probably looking to see what else he can get into for the day.”

Family gran Drusilla Harvin took to social media to thank the rescuers.

She said: “I am thankful for the time and the care from both the police and fire department for rescuing Spike.

“It took a little over an hour, glad I was home while Kam was at school. Job Well Done – Grandma.”

Another social media user, ‘Sharon Sisson’ added: “Spike is a mischievous one! Thanks for freeing the little fella. Hopefully, he learned his lesson.”

And ‘Terri Nesbitt’ said: “Poor baby! Happy he is ok!!! Good Job Sumter PD/Fire Department.” (sic)
