This is the dramatic moment a meowing cat clinging to the overhead roof of an apartment building gets rescued by a quick-thinking neighbour using his jacket.

In the clip, the poor cat can be seen desperately grasping the overhead on the first floor of a building in the city of Wuhan, in China’s Hubei Province, as it hangs on for dear life on Saturday, 24th December.

It can be seen trying to pull itself back onto the roof, without realising that an inventive neighbour, whose identity was not disclosed in local media, was waiting down in the hope that he would catch it when it fell.

The can tried even harder to cling on, but when it lost balance and failed. The young man below held his jacket wide open, ensuring a smooth rescue of the frightened feline.

When asked by media, the young man said that despite the freezing cold temperatures. He was determined to save the animal.

The heartwarming footage was viewed more than 2.5 million times and shared another 800,000 after it was posted on China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, later that day.

Then ‘Chaoshanmu Temple’ commented: “This is just a small kitten, and its paws don’t have much strength yet. If it were an adult cat, it would have fallen and rolled over.”

And ‘Cuihua’ added: “The moment he rescued it, my heart was frightened and moved at the same time.”
