Alligators Fight Over Anaconda Before Winner Swims Off With Prey In Jaws

This is the moment two alligators engage in a battle over an anaconda for lunch before the winner swims away with its prey clutched between its powerful jaws.

The incident took place on the banks of the BR-262 between the municipalities of Corumba and Miranda in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in Brazil, on 6th November.

Two large alligators can be seen in the footage holding onto the ends of the snake at a close range.

One can be seen trying to wrestle the prey away from the other alligator but in the end, the second reptile wins.

It can then be seen dragging its prey off in its jaws as it swims away.

A tourist who captured the moment shared the footage online.

The local population of alligators was reportedly so significant that a local woman called Eurides Fatima Macena de Barros, or Dona Maria, as she was also called by residents and tourists who passed through the region, began taking care of them.

After she passed away in 2021 at the age of 68, her son Mauro Nei Barros took over her role watching over the reptiles.

He said: “They miss her. I continue working the space here, but they were used to her call. It used to bring together dozens, but now, fewer alligators come here compared to before.”
