Mechanic Drops Hood After Finding 7-Foot Boa Constrictor Was Reason For Gear Problem

This is the shocking moment a mechanic finds a seven-foot-long boa constrictor wrapped around a car engine.

The incident happened as the driver had her car taken for repair at the workshop Mega Centro Automotivo. In Rio Branco, in the Brazilian state of Acre, on Wednesday, 10th January.

The footage shows the snake wrapped around the car parts in the engine.

Douglas Mendes, who works in the workshop, told local media that a woman had called them asking for a tow truck because she was having problems with her vehicle.

The car was removed from the tow truck and a mechanic opened the hood to begin looking for the problem.

Douglas said: “She told me that there was a problem with the clutch.

“I got there, I didn’t open the hood, I started the vehicle, I said it was fine, but I explained that as I had activated the winch, we would take it and do other tests there.”

A second piece of footage shows the moment the mechanic opens the hood and drops it in shock after seeing the large snake.

Douglas said: “The animal was very confused. We closed the hood so it wouldn’t be more stressed.

“But, it became a celebrity here.”

The third piece of footage shows the moment people are gathered and watch the snake wrapped in the engine. While some of them are seen recording it.

Douglas said: “The snake was holding the gear selector cables and the car couldn’t get into gear.

“It got all tangled up in the car’s engine, we had to dismantle the brake cylinder and remove the battery.

“We put everything back and it worked.”

A fourth clip shows the rescue workers unwrapping and taking the snake with a stick. Before putting it in a blue bucket.

In the end, firefighters were called to the scene and they took the reptile, which local media said was a boa constrictor. And more than 2 metres (6.5 feet) long, to the Wild Animal Triage Center (Cetas).

Boa constrictor is a large and non-venomous snake which is usually bred in captivity.
