This is the bizarre moment a horse being ridden by a young girl collides with a car, causing injuries to the elderly driver who had to be rushed to hospital.

CCTV footage captured the moment the horse gallops across a busy intersection and slams into the moving vehicle in Missao Velha, in north-eastern Brazil, on 2nd April.

The driver is forced into an abrupt stop when the animal charged at speed out of nowhere, narrowly dodging an oncoming motorcycle and slamming into the front of the car.

It appears the impact was so powerful that the horse and its rider are catapulted into the air before crashing onto the tarmac.

The elderly man who was driving the car reportedly suffered a blow to the head and was taken to a local hospital by witnesses.

The car was also dented in the crash.

According to witnesses, the girl and the animal suffered minor injuries and left on their own.

Police later said they had not received an official report about the accident and are trying to identify and locate the young woman.

It is suspected that the girl lost control of her horse and did not know how to stop it when it bolted through traffic.
