Crafty Primate Negotiates Return Of Nicked Phone In Exchange For Food

This footage shows the moment a monkey negotiates a return of stolen property in exchange for food with a woman whose phone it had snatched.

In the video, the bartering monkey initially rejects a piece of fruit offered by the woman from her tote bag.

But she then produces a different type of fruit, which it readily grabs.

The monkey puts the fruit in its mouth but hangs on to the phone with its other hand demanding more.

It is only when the woman then gives it a second piece of the same fruit that the monkey decides the deal is worth it and relinquishes the phone, seemingly satisfied that it has got a good deal.

The woman retrieves her phone from the ledge as the monkey jumps away to join another waiting monkey higher up.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Bali province of Indonesia, with the images surfacing in local media in the last few days after being shared online about a week ago.

The video has since garnered numerous amusing comments from netizens.

One user said: “Once the trade has been made, nothing stops one from giving that little troublemaker a push off that ledge.”

But another said: “Perhaps the others would swarm to take revenge on you. Monkeys are clever troublemakers.

But another commenter humorously noted: “Why do you guys blame the monkey? The women should have been more careful. If anything, the monkey showed more intelligence than some humans.”
