Confused Monkey Busts Out Of Zoo Then Breaks Into Prison

This is the moment a confused monkey who had just escaped from a zoo breaks into a nearby prison in Brazil.

The mixed-up macaque was caught on security CCTV as it scampered up the fence at Evaristo de Moraes Prison, Quinta da Boa Vista, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, on 18th April.

Footage shows a delivery trucker waiting for the main gates to open. A man in the passenger seat then spots the cheeky monkey as it seems to test the jail’s security.

The video then cuts to the monkey running across the main prison yard after making its way over the wall before guards seized it.

Local media reported that it had escaped from the nearby Bioparque do Rio zoo and was returned there soon after.

But the monkey could have realised it was better off in the zoo.

In 2019, human rights campaigners criticised the jail for its shocking treatment of inmates.

A report by the Inter-American Commission On Human Rights condemned the prison for poor medical treatment. A lack of drinkable water and a series of unexplained deaths.
