Captive Elephant Breaks Woman’s Leg After Grabbing Her With Trunk And Slamming Her To The Ground

The distressing video shows a captive elephant breaking a woman’s leg after grabbing her in its trunk and intensely swinging her before slamming her to the ground.

CCTV footage released by non-profit People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) showed the elephant, named Gouri, attacking the Russian tourist in the main courtyard of Amer Fort, in the city of Amer, in India’s state of Rajasthan on 27th February.

In the clip, the tusker can be seen grasping the woman with its trunk and forcefully swinging her before smacking her to the ground.

The woman suffered a broken leg as a result of the incident. She was immediately transferred to Sawai Man Singh Hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the elephant’s mahout who lost balance during the attack was also thrown to the ground.

To prevent further potential risks to visitors, Amer Fort authorities banned Gouri and her mahout’s services following the incident.

PETA India revealed that the same elephant had severely injured a male shopkeeper two years ago, in October 2022.

They then urged the regional government to swiftly relocate Gouri to an animal sanctuary, allowing the tusker to begin recovering from the psychological trauma caused by captivity.

The non-profit also called for an immediate replacement of all elephant rides with eco-friendly electric or battery-operated vehicles. And urged tourists to refrain from engaging in activities involving direct contact with elephants.

PETA India Director of Advocacy Khushboo Gupta said in a statement obtained by Clipzilla. “Elephants who have spent years being chained, bullied, and threatened with weapons are known to run amok, lashing out in fear and frustration.

“Despite being a known danger, Gouri continued to be used to carry tourists at Amer Fort.

“Rajasthan authorities must send her to a sanctuary for her and tourists’ sake and replace the use of elephants with beautifully decorated electric vehicles.

“In the meantime, tourists must make kind choices and not support this abuse.”
