Woman Has Hilarious ‘Screaming’ Match With Playful Pet Fish

A woman went viral online after sharing of video of her having a bizarre screaming match with her pet fish.

The odd interaction was captured on phone footage at the unnamed woman’s home in Huizhou, in China’s eastern Guangdong Province.

In the video, the woman could be seen walking up to the large tank, immediately drawing the curiosity of her pet fish, which appeared to be a Giant Gourami.

With her arms folded back, she glued her face next to the glass and opened her mouth, silently screaming.

Incredibly, rather than being startled by the woman’s frightening expression, it instead ‘screamed’ back, mimicking her with an open mouth as it shook its head at her.

The woman could not help but laugh at the fish’s unexpected reaction.

She later explained it was actually a common play among them, ever since she bought it four or five years ago.

The Giant Gourami (Osphronemus goramy) is a large freshwater fish known for its distinctive appearance and vibrant colouration.

Native to Southeast Asia, particularly in rivers and lakes of countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, it is a popular choice in the aquarium trade.

With a thickset body, a prominent forehead, and iridescent scales that can display shades of gold, blue, and green, the Giant Gourami is an eye-catching species.

Due to its size, it requires spacious tanks and careful consideration of its habitat needs in captivity.

They are often considered to be somewhat temperamental in the aquarium hobby and might become aggressive towards other fish. Particularly if their space is invaded or if they feel threatened.
