This street dog has survived but has been left in incredible pain with its jaw broken after a teenager put a firecracker in its mouth.
The 13-year-old, who has not been named, reportedly placed the pyrotechnic in the animal’s mouth in the city of Leon, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato on 25th December.
The exploding firecracker left the dog with a jaw fracture and second-degree burns on the tongue and palate, according to local media.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian where it was stabilized and treated.
Heartbreaking footage shows the dog lying on the veterinarian’s bed while seemingly being treated.
Its mouth can be seen open, as it is not able to close it due to the painful jaw fracture.
A rescuer, named as Clio Sanz, told local media: “They performed pain management and stabilized her since she was very bad.
“Today the plates and blood tests were taken.”
The dog now needs a titanium plate implanted to repair the fractured jaw.

Since surgery will cost MXN 18,000 (GBP 831) and the daily hospitalization will cost MXN 250 (GBP 12), the animal rescue group Amor Mestizio organised a campaign for donations.
Gabriela del Rocio Sanchez, president of Amor Mestizo told local media that the locals did not want to collaborate in the case and help in identifying the perpetrator.
She added: “Unfortunately, people cover up a lot, people don’t speak […]
“They do complain, but they don’t cooperate.
“They don’t realize that children who violate animals will be the next people who violate people.
“We just have some children who pointed the aggressor out. But yesterday when we went to ask them, the mothers didn’t let them talk.”
