Rescuers Lure Kitten Trapped In Basement By Playing Recording Of Mother Cat Meowing

This is the moment rescuers lure a stuck kitten out of a basement by playing it a recording of a mother cat meowing.

The incident happened in the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, in the far east of Russia on Saturday, 4th November.

Rescuers received a call saying that a kitten was stuck in a hole in the concrete masonry of a basement.

But after arriving on the scene, they were unable to reach the meowing kitten.

The footage, obtained from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, shows how only the black kitten’s eyes can be seen in the dark basement, with the space too small for a human to crawl into.

So the rescuers came up with the idea of playing the kitten some audio of a mother cat found on the internet in a bid to lure it closer to them so it would be within grabbing distance.

The ploy worked and the black kitten can be seen being rescued from the gap in the basement wall and handed over to a woman.

She had reportedly called for help after her children heard it meowing and asked their mum to rescue it.

As a result, after the rescue, the woman reportedly adopted the tiny black kitten, who can be seen in the footage adorably curling up in a ball and cosying in the woman’s arms.

The woman, who has not been named, told the rescuers: “Thank you very much for taking it out. Now my girls will calm down at home. They were worried, they cried so much. Of course we’ll take it. It’s still a baby.”

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Jewish Autonomous Oblast saying: “We are glad that the kitten has found a family.

“But before that, it had to be taken out of a hole in the concrete masonry of the basement.

“In addition to dexterity, the rescuers used resourcefulness: they turned on the sound of the mother cat on the phone to lure the kitten.

“The beautiful lady who sheltered the fluffy one said that she would name him Tolik.”

Tolik is derived from the Ancient Greek name Anatole and means “sunrise”.
