Dove Found Nesting Inside Traffic Light

You might think only a real bird brain would build a home inside a set of traffic lights at a busy city crossroads.

But when maintenance workers in Turkey were called to this set of signals, they were astonished to find a dove hatching her eggs inside the broken amber lamp.

The dove – seen here sitting on her fastidiously built nest – had bafflingly chosen a set of lights at one of the busiest junctions in Kayapinar, Diyarbakir Province.

But the repairers did not have the heart to evict the family and simply made the lamp safe so they would not get electrocuted.

Then they left the service hatch open so the young fledglings can fly in and out easily once they have hatched.

Motorists and passersby have been delighted by their kindhearted decision.

Mehmet Akif Can, who lives nearby, told local media on 21st June: “Since people have destroyed nature, birds do not know where to nest.

“There are fewer trees, their habitat is diminishing. But I was very surprised to see this.”

Akif added: “Animals nest in higher places to protect themselves from people. We must not destroy them. All animals deserve our respect.”

Pedestrian Sait Gokcek spotted the nest as he was crossing the road.

Sait said: “I’ve just seen it for the first time.

“They should not do anything about the traffic light unless the dove leaves.

“They can remove its nest after young ones have hatched. What an amazing sight!”

An unnamed male motorist just said: “Yes, I can see the bird. It must be God’s wisdom. There must be a reason behind it.”
