Pod Of Killer Whales Chase Fishermen Who Appease Them With Herring

This footage shows a pod of killer whales chasing some fishermen and their boat with the anglers then feeding them some herrings as a peace offering.

The images were filmed in the Dalnegorsky district of Primorsky Krai, in the waters off the coast of far-eastern Russia.

The video shows the large animals swimming under the boat and emerging on the water’s surface nearby.

They can then be seen diving again and swimming right under the boat just a few feet below the surface.

In the footage one of the people on the boat can be heard saying (in Russian): “There’s a whole bunch of them here.”

He then adds: “What a healthy killer whale! There he goes. Wow! Right below us, below us! Beauty! Huge! Oh! What a healthy killer whale!”

Local media reported that the boat was pursued by at least five killer whales.

The fishermen reportedly decided to feed the killer whales some of their catch of herring to appease them.

Local reports said that this was a risky bargain as the killer whales could have decided to capsise the vessel to get at the bulk of the catch.

But the incident ended well, with the killer whales leaving the fishermen alone and the fishermen later returning to port with their catch.
