Dog Dies After Leaping Off Side Of Tower Staircase

This is the moment an excited dog runs up the steps of an observation tower and then jumps over a small ledge, where it plunges to the ground, unaware that there is a steep drop on the other side.

The footage shows the dog, which was not on a lead, eagerly clambering up some steep steps before tumbling off near the doorway and plummeting to the ground where it lands hard and fatally injures itself.

The hard-to-watch images show the poor pooch taking a few steps after the fall, apparently unscathed, before suddenly keeling over in front of a horrified woman walking her dog.

The images were filmed at the observation tower in Wielka Sowa, the highest peak of the Owl Mountains, a range of the Central Sudetes, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland, on the afternoon of Sunday, 2nd June.

Two tourists and the woman walking her dog rushed over to help but the dog died, according to local media reports. It was not immediately clear who its owner was.

The images were released by the manager of the Wielka Sowa observation tower as a warning to pet owners to keep an eye on their animals when taking trips.

A statement from the Wielka Sowa observation tower said: “When going to the mountains, always keep your pets on a lead!

“Today, just before the tower closed, a tragic accident took place.

“We never judge the behaviour of tourists, but putting animal corpses in a black bag … this is also our drama.”

The statement continued: “The dog did not survive the fall from the external stairs by jumping over the concrete wall. Remember, although beautiful, the mountains do not forgive mistakes.”

They also said: “And imagine that it’s not a dog… Just an unattended child… Think, please, be responsible.”
