This is the heart-touching moment a cat mum adopts an orphaned kitten after her own litter of six perished in a fire.

Locals in Antalya, southwest Turkey, were touched by the stray mum’s desperate search for her youngsters in the charred rubble of the house.

Every day, the mother would patrol the debris or sit where one of the windows used to be, waiting for her lost litter to appear after the 17th September fire.

So, kind-hearted locals decided to set up an impromptu adoption when they found an abandoned kitten that was looking for a mum.

Heart-melting footage of their first moments together shows the pair sniffing each other out as they get to know each other.

The mother cat seems confused at first but keeps coming back to the kitten as it mews at her.

Then, as she walks away, she is seen waiting for the kitten to catch up as she shows it the way to its new home.

Burak Inceler, the animal lover who fixed up the adoption, explained: “After seeing the condition of this cat in the news, we took the orphaned kitten we had found to the vet for care.

“Thinking, why not, I brought it to the mother cat.

“We were delighted when we saw the mother cat’s response. She adopted it.

“The kitten is fulfilling the mother’s longing, and the mother cat is easing her longing for a kitten. Hopefully, it will fill the void left by her lost kittens.”
