Heartwarming Footage Shows Two Firemen Rescue Elk Trapped Inside Freezing Pond In USA

A heartwarming video shows the moment two firemen rescue an elk stuck in a frozen pond.

The two firefighters reportedly rushed to the poor animal’s rescue after eyewitnesses saw it trapped inside the frozen pond near Timbervale Drive in the town of Evergreen, in Colorado, USA.

The rescue operation occurred on Friday, 17th February.

The video footage shows the men holding a massive catching pole as they stand on top of the ice near the pond and attempt to pull the elk out of the freezing water.

But when their attempt ends unsuccessfully, they both pull it out on the ice by grasping one of its front legs.

As soon as it reaches solid ground, the frightened animal takes a minute to collect its thoughts and gives the two men a seemingly thankful look before heading its own way.

The video was seen over 25,000 times after the Evergreen Fire Department shared it on their Facebook page on Saturday, 18th February.

They said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Earlier this evening, our firefighters rescued an elk after it broke through the ice on a pond near Timbervale Drive.

“Human witnesses did the right thing and called 911.”

Stunned Facebook users then praised the two firemen in the video’s comment section.

Facebook user Dawn Somerville Zalfa said: “Great work! Love our dedicated first responders keeping all us mountain residents safe!”

User Ingrid Lauenstein added: “Wow- fantastic job! Thank you EFR and those who called 911.”

Then another one named Pam O’Connor Albrecht commented: “Awwww! Thank you for saving her! You know she’s probably expecting too…”
