Woman Who Lied That Pedigree Shih Tzu Was Hers Faces Charges After Dog Chooses Real Owner When Given Choice

This is the moment a missing Shih Tzu resolves a two-month ownership dispute by running straight to her real owner when forced to choose between the two claimants at a police station.

The incident took place in Balneario Pinhal, on the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, and was resolved on Wednesday, 25th February.

Endy, an eight-year-old Shih Tzu, disappeared from her owner’s home on 15 December 2025. According to the Civil Police, he searched for the dog and mobilised the local community in an effort to find her.

Two months later, he learned through contacts on social media that a 34-year-old woman was claiming to be the dog’s owner and had taken the animal into her home.

When he confronted her, she refused to return the dog. He then filed a police report and an investigation was launched.

On Wednesday, after search and seizure warrants were carried out, Endy was taken to the police station.

The officer in charge of the investigation decided to place the dog and the man in the same area to observe the animal’s reaction.

Police said the owner brought a transport crate that Endy had used since she was a puppy and in which she used to sleep.

When the dog was released into the courtyard, she ran directly to the crate, lay down inside it, and then went to the man, reacting excitedly.

The reunion was filmed by police, and the owner became emotional after seeing the dog again following two months apart.

The woman later admitted that the dog did not belong to her but said she had decided to keep it.

Police also seized another Shih Tzu from the same house. The second dog was found to have mange and atopic dermatitis. The delegate said the animal would not be returned to the woman due to indications of mistreatment.

The second dog has received initial treatment and will require further veterinary care before being made available for adoption.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, will answer for the crimes of fraud and animal mistreatment, police said.
