This is the moment firefighters capture a venomous coral snake that had ventured into a family kitchen to eat a rodent and was then seen lying on the warm stove after eating its meal.
The snake that was more than a metre long was discovered stretched out across the family’s kitchen stove in the city of Formiga, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 12th February.
The Minas Gerais Military Fire Brigade said crews were called when residents spotted the reptile inside the kitchen of the property.
On arrival, firefighters found the snake lying on top of the stove. Based on its markings and characteristics, it appeared to be a coral snake measuring just over one metre (3.2 feet) in length.
Online commentators joked that the family had got rid of two pests at once after the snake first ate the rodent before it was caught, with the outline of its prey clearly visible bulging inside its body.
Footage released by the brigade shows firefighters approaching the cooker carefully before using specialised reptile-handling tongs to pin and secure the snake.
The snake is then lifted and placed into a secure transport box after it was disentangled from the gas cooker rings.
The brigade said it was taken to a rural area of the municipality and released into a native forest far from residential properties where it could digest its meal in peace.
Firefighters said the operation was carried out to protect residents while ensuring the serpent was safely returned to the wild.
