This footage shows a dog that was found starving after being dumped in a rubbish skip in the Canary Islands before being rescued by kindhearted souls.
Photos of the dog from when it was rescued show it extremely malnourished, with its rib cage clearly visible.
But after being spotted wandering the streets of the Gran Canaria neighbourhood of Jinamar, in the city of Telde, it was taken into care by the animal rights organisation Leales, which also helps strays get adopted by new owners.
The organisation told local media that the poor dog had been abandoned in a rubbish container by its previous owners.
Locals had then given the dog some water and some food before notifying the municipal animal shelter, but they did not even get a reply, according to local media.
They then reached out to Leales on social media, with the animal welfare organisation then taking the dog in.
The dog underwent a number of health checks and is still being cared for by the organisation.
Leales spokesperson Alejandro Molina said: “The most important thing is that the dog regains weight.”

He added that several people had offered to adopt the dog but said that this would only be possible after the animal had recovered from its ordeal.
Molina slammed the local authorities and appealed to them to set up kennels in Las Palmas and Telde.
He said that neither of the cities currently has kennels, saying that other facilities to house stray animals are currently full, with the authorities now just leaving strays to their fate.
