This is the hissy fit moment a wife with a fear of snakes finds one slithering through a lettuce as she gets it out of the fridge.
The salad veg had been bought packed in a bag at a market in Palmas, central Brazil, a day earlier by husband Juan Lucas Dias Mendes and put straight in the chiller.
But Juan explained: “The next morning, my wife went to wash the lettuce and, as soon as she opened the bag, she came face to face with the snake.
“It was a huge fright, she already has a phobia of snakes. And even more so in a situation like that.”
In a video shared on social media the black and white serpent, identified as a Brazilian slug-eating snake, can be seen coiled up between the lettuce leaves.
Once he was over the shock, Juan safely removed the reptile from the house, local media reported on 21st July.

He said: “I took it out of the bag and released it myself in a green area near my home.”
Biologist Luis Felipe Amui explained that the species is non-venomous. And would have been feeding on slugs and snails when it was scooped up and bagged by a harvester.
