A woman captured the moment a wild elephant invaded her home, using its long trunk to search for food after wreaking havoc in her yard.
The woman, not identified in local media, said she was awoken by the loud ruckus the giant mammal caused around her home in Xishuangbanna, in China’s south-western Yunnan Province.
She said she was sleeping when the elephant burst through the door at around midnight.
She grabbed her phone and filmed the moment as the unexpected intruder extended its long trunk into the room to explore, picking up a bag of items before leaving.
After it went away, the woman added she realised it had left her yard in utter chaos while apparently searching for food outside.
She added she was scared that she spent the rest of the night wide awake.
The incident also shocked many users on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, where the woman posted the video on 27th January.

A user titled ‘W xRu’ commented: “I have not slept well, I must have started hallucinating cause I just saw an elephant breaking through someone’s door.”
User ‘Fried pork buns’ wrote: “It startled me as well.”
And ‘@stay with me)’ wrote: “When that trunk suddenly extended, I thought it was a giant python.”
