The runaway animal belonged to a beef wholesaler operating inside the Mawangdui Seafood and Aquatic Products Market, and the trader reportedly alerted police immediately after the bull broke free from its restraints and escaped onto the streets.
Due to the serious risk to public safety, police cordoned off the area and shot the bull dead at around 3am, approximately two hours after the rampage began, according to local media.
Local media reported that all three victims were taken to hospital and are in stable condition, with one of the injured pedestrians suffering a fractured rib.
According to local media, the animal’s owner and the market management board said they were accepting full responsibility for the incident and confirmed they would cover all medical expenses, rehabilitation costs and any compensation awarded to the three injured pedestrians.
