A video showing several men giving alcohol to a dehydrated puppy has outraged social media users and animal rights activists.

Smartphone footage recorded by the group of people shows the poor dog drinking the liquor out of a plastic glass in the city of Sawai Madhopur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

While the animal eagerly gulps the alcoholic beverage, the men can be heard laughing in the background throughout the whole recording.

The video triggered massive criticism after Poonam Bagri, an animal welfare representative, shared it on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on 5th January.

She said: “One reason why dogs bite is that some ridiculous people give dogs alcohol at night… When will actions be taken against them?

“These people are making our and our animals’ lives difficult.”

Bagri also identified one of the suspects as Sheru Borda, and shared his Facebook profile with her followers, urging them to take action against him.

She said: “So many people follow them but look at their misdeeds. This puppy is so young, its life could be endangered, Please take action against this man.”

Following Bragi’s post, local police initiated an investigation against Borda.

The disturbing footage triggered massive criticism by social media users. It has been viewed more than 9,500 times as of 8th January.

X user ‘Aayaan Gardner’ said: “Please give an update on this. I hope this man is arrested. If not we can take action on our own as well no problem.”

Then ‘Deepa Hisar’ commented: “Strict action must be taken against such nuisance.

“There are almost 2.7 million cases of dog bites in a year, such people are making the situation worse for humans as well as animals.”

And ‘Prakash W. Kamat’ added: “There should be strict action against such notorious fellows.”
