This is the moment a frozen lake that had turned into a death trap for a herd of roe deer saw two locals brave the ice to haul the exhausted animals to safety.
Officials said the roe deer had entered Novosibirsk Oblast while migrating from Altai Krai and became trapped when the frozen lakes on their route formed slick ice barriers that the animals were unable to climb.
The footage of the recused animals that had ventured onto the lake while migrating was recorded near the city of Karasuk. In Novosibirsk Oblast, in Russia, according to reports on 27th November.
The video shows Ilya Zaitsev and his friend using a sledge to lift and transport the weakened roe deer after finding them unable to stand on the ice of the frozen lake.
The men are seen placing the animals onto the sledge one at a time before dragging them across the ice to the shoreline.
In the clip, they can be seen tying a young deer’s legs together to stop it struggling and injuring itself before placing the animal on the sledge, pulling it to safety and releasing it.
Zaitsev shared the rescue on his YouTube channel after the pair came across the stranded herd.
He said they moved as many roe deer as their strength allowed and ultimately saved more than a dozen animals.

Regional officials said that more than 300 roe deer were rescued across Novosibirsk Oblast in recent days during migration from Altai Krai, when many became stuck on frozen lakes.
Authorities explained that numerous animals fell into ditches and became trapped in fences as they attempted to cross the ice.
A hovercraft was also used by rescuers to travel safely across thin ice while hunters and volunteers helped pull the trapped deer free.
Semen Dopler from the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology said. “Unfortunately, there were losses, but together we managed to save the majority of the herd.”
