This is the moment a fearless Yorkie dog foils a fifth-floor cat burglar by scaring off the balcony-scaling intruder in the dead of night and forcing him out of the apartment empty-handed.
The incident involving the brave Yorkshire Terrier dog happened in Vila Olimpia, a neighbourhood in the South Zone of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the early hours of Saturday, 21st February.
Security camera footage from inside the apartment shows the burglar entering the living room after gaining access via the balcony.
Moments later, the small dog runs towards him barking, startling the intruder and prompting him to turn and flee back the way he came.
The woman resident, who was asleep at the time, is then seen emerging in a nightdress after being woken by the noise, initially unaware of what had just happened.
According to Sao Paulo’s Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), the case was registered as unlawful entry and criminal damage at the 96th Police District in Brooklin, and officers are carrying out inquiries to identify the suspect.
Police said the same man also entered another apartment in the same building that night.
Residents reported that the suspect accessed balconies by scaling the facade of the building and tearing protective safety netting.
The owner of the second-floor apartment he targeted shortly before, who was travelling at the time, said small items, including a gold ring and bank cards, were missing when they checked.
The building’s manager told police that no items were taken from common areas.
Investigators are analysing the footage as part of ongoing efforts to identify the suspect, who has not yet been named.
