The dramatic incident where the bovine dashes along the platform at high speed happened at Japeri railway station in the municipality of Japeri, in the Baixada Fluminense area of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, on 13th July.

Footage shows the calf running at speed while being chased by a black dog that barks at the animal during its unexpected journey.

The calf then makes its way into one of the train carriages, where it lies down on the floor before later getting back up and continuing to run through the seemingly empty train.

People can be heard shouting warnings as the animal moves between the platform alongside stationary trains.

One passenger shouted: “Catch the cow! Catch the cow! It got on the train! Get out of there, get off the train.”

Witnesses said they did not know how the young cow managed to enter the station.

Some people online joked about the calf appearing to “run to get a seat”, while others expressed concern for the animal after seeing it looking frightened.

The train operator responsible for the service in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, SuperVia, said the large calf eventually left the station by itself once the dog had been removed.

The company confirmed that the unexpected visit did not affect train operations.

The calf was not reported to have been injured after its dash through the station and train carriage.
